About Mrs. Van Patten

Hello! My name is Mrs. Van Patten! This is my fifth year teaching second grade at BKW Elementary and I couldn’t imagine teaching a better grade! Second grade is full of growing, exploring, and learning to become independent!
I grew up in Guilderland and graduated from Guilderland High School. I received my Bachelor’s of Science degree from the University at Albany where I majored in mathematics and minored in education. I then went on to attend the College of Saint Rose where I earned my Master’s degree in Childhood Education with an extension to grades 7-9. I absolutely love teaching and can’t wait to share many fun experiences with you!
Outside of school, I enjoy spending time at home with my husband and all of our animals. We have a German Shepherd, Gunther, a horse, Andy, and five pygmy goats, Mac and Cheese, and Otis, Oliver, and Olaf! You will hear plenty of stories about our farm! I also love reading, photography, boating, kayaking, and organizing!
I am thrilled to spend the year together! I can’t wait to get to know you, your families, and your hobbies. Second grade is such a fun year. I look forward to spending the year learning and growing with you!
